The independent living management team is face with problems. For instance, the biggest problem is the union, should they oppose it? What arguments or defenses might the hospital raise to the unions organizing issues? If the company elects to resist the unionization what steps must the company follow? Unions are becoming well now in the nursing industry but can cause problems within the workplace.
Some of the arguments the hospital can raise due to the unions organizing issue is overtime, higher pay and benefits for the nurses, prevent employees from being terminated and even having to help n aiding with more health care to the nurses. If the company takes the advice and does not go union the hospital must follow the proper steps. With the introduction of unions in the workplace many organization may have a hard time funding the employees. The employer can listen to employees, on his or her wants on making the organization better.
The employer will need to establish committees for the employees and have effective communication to understand what the employees are wanting. Track the changes within the organization such as performance and goals. Taking the communication and acting on it help in giving what the employees is wanting. Training for employees and having an open door policy will all be effective ways on preventing the union from coming into the hospital. Many unfair labor practices need to be avoided by management.
The management cannot discriminate against and employee for talking or associating with the union. Threaten employees with closure of plant, influencing employees to change his or her mind about unions, creating employees to use the constructive discharge, question workers on how he or she feels about the union or other work related issues. This is an example of unfair labor practices that the management must prevent from happening to the employees that are employed within the company.
